X-Head_LC

X-Head_LC cylinder guards for all Liquid Cooled models.

The X-Head_LC design benefits from "SuperTough" nylon technology successfully proven in use with the X-Head DOHC and SOHC models. With its blend of high impact strength, temperature and UV stabilization, the injection molded shell is designed to be slightly ductile in impact to prevent breakage. On the inside of the shell is a thermoplastic rubber liner that rests against the face of the cylinder to aid in dissipating impact force while preventing hard contact. Each side mounts via 2 stainless steel M5 T25 Torx Head fasteners and one T50 bolt.

X-Head_LC cover 80% of the face of the head to protect not only the bottom/front initial impact area, but also the mid part of the cylinder head. Even in a stationary drop, inertia can cause a bike to roll partially onto the face of the head before it settles down.

X-Head_LC are styled to complement the Liquid-Cooled models & are the best choice for riders who do not like the look of crash bars, especially on an RT, R, and RS.

For GS off-road riding, X-Head_LC fits with crash bars to fill the gaps between the bars protecting heads from rocks and strike angles onto terrain that can get past the bars.

X-Heads do not fit with Hepco & Becker crash bars. X-Heads have been successfully fitted with crash bars made by BMW, Touratech, SW Motech and Alt Rider.  NOTE: Fit and compatibility of BMW or aftermarket crash bars with X-Heads may vary, depending on their manufacturing size accuracy and any running changes the manufacturers may have made over time.

Installation with crash bars: To install X-Heads on R1200 GS/A already fitted with crash bars, they will have to be removed to provide enough working room for X-Head installation.  It is recommended that removal and re-fitting be done by a qualified BMW technician if there is any concern about the procedure.

Avant_LC

The AVANT_LC  front fender extension for all years of the liquid cooled R1200GS/ADV is designed for functional improvement and styling to complement the look of this significant new BMW.

The  GS/A_LC’s stock fender is both pointier and shorter than the previous models making the painted front engine surface and the exhaust headers vulnerable to premature chipping from road debris and coating with tar and mud. AVANT helps control this environmental assault, increasing longevity and reducing clean-up.

The patent pending design installs in three minutes with two self-locking screw clamps that grip the underside of the fender, as well as engaging the tip of the fender for a secure fit. AVANT_LC can be easily removed for transfer to another bike in the future without leaving disfiguring holes behind.

Injection molded in tough polypropylene, AVANT fits perfectly and its texture matches the stock BMW fender. It is shown in the photos with BMW's optional Enduro Skid Plate fitted to the standard GS.

AVANT_LC fits the 2014+ GS/A with BMW's standard skid plate, but does not fit GS/A comfortably with the optional Enduro Skid Plate - part #77148533747. To enable longer suspension travel on the ADV, front end caster angle was changed reducing clearance between the AVANT_LC and the Enduro plate.

Two aftermarket skid plates verified to fit with the AVANT on the GS/A are from Wunderlich, shown  in one of the photos here, and the Touratech Expedition plate.

The following skid plate DOES NOT FIT with the AVANT_LC:  Black Dog.  Alt Rider and SW Motech skid plates fit the standard GS, but not the GSA.   We are testing other skid plates over time and will post them in our BLOGROLL.

MudSling

BMW has, for the first time, provided a small rear fender on this new GS, but it is insufficiently long and wide enough to divert mud from the rider and surrounding components. The MudSling™_LC mounts to the existing short fender and sides of the frame  in between the rear tire and suspension, increasing the surface width to each side up to 3" and downwards 7" for a total of 200% more coverage area than stock. It protects the rear shock and surrounding areas from stone damage, mud  and tar accumulation.

MudSling™_LC is injection molded in resilient polypropylene with a fine texture matching other molded surfaces on the GS. It is precisely shaped to engage the bottom of the existing fender and fits tightly against the frame where it is secured. Installation takes less than 5 minutes.

MudSling™ fits with BMW stock pannier mounts for both the GS and ADV, as well as Touratech Zega Pro and SW Motech. It does not fit with Hepco Becker, and Jesse Odessey II mounts.

MudSling™ fits with standard fitment street biased dual sport tires, like the Metzeler Tourance Next, Michelin Anakee, Continental Trail Attack and TKC-70 fit both the GS and GSA.  On the standard GS, Mitas 07 knobbies do not fit. On GSA models Michelin Wild knobbies do fit. Other knobbies like TKC-80 and Hidenau 60 Scout do not fit. Read the Bogroll entry below for more tire compatibility information.

The Avant 12GS front fender extension and MudSling™ 12GS rear fender bundle are a matched set designed to protect vulnerable surrounding parts from rock  throw-back, tar, and mud accumulation.  No crude drilling of mounting holes is needed!

The Avant, with 5.5" of extra length and 2" of width,  protects the painted front surface of the engine and cross-over pipe from being inevitably pock marked over time. It mounts in 3 minutes with three screw clamps that engage the underside of the stock fender. You can easily remove it again for maintenance or to move it to another bike.

MudSling™ mounts with screws to two existing bosses on the frame and ties into the side frame rails for a secure fit. It provides clearance for knobby tires and fits all rear shocks - stock, aftermarket, and ESA. It is also shaped to fit OEM & most aftermarket side cases mounts, including Jesse Odessey II - low pipe version.

Both the Avant 12 GS and MudSling™12GS have the same fine surface texture to match other molded surfaces on the GS/A.
